Message from Rob Ellis
Dear Teacher:
The tragic loss of my son David in a workplace-related accident has convinced me of the vital importance of speaking with and educating our young workers. I am confident that this unique resource will enable you to make a measurable difference in the lives of our young people.
An OAC student approached me this year and said in a quiet voice, ”I only wish we had this information two years ago. Why have we had to wait so long?” I could only respond by telling him that there is a right time and place for everything and maybe we are at the cross-roads in Ontario where health and safety is being brought to youth in schools. His response was spontaneous, ”But Mr. Ellis, I have lost my cousin and best friend in the last two years in two different settings; one on a farm and the other in an industrial workplace. My heart aches over these losses. It's been tough, Mr. Ellis.”
My son David would have helped me in my response if he were here today by saying ”Dad, we can see the future. It's right in front of us. It's my generation both now and those following me that we must help to educate.” If we can see the future then we can positively impact what will happen in Ontario.
Thank you for taking the time to teach these new skills to our future generation. Education and training in safety are important facets for the growth of our students. They are depending on us.
Thanks once again.
Rob Ellis
