In construction, falls are the leading cause of injury and death. Did you know that if you are working in construction, and are working more than six feet above the ground or a lower level, OSHA standards require some kind of fall protection. Fall protection falls into two categories: • fall prevention – as the name implies, these are systems to keep workers from falling. Scaffolding is a fall prevention system. • fall arrest – in situations where you can’t be sure to prevent worker falls, these systems make sure that if a worker falls, they won’t fall far or be injured or killed. Employers at workplaces with fall hazards are required to have a fall protection plan in place.
